Background Information

Leyte-Samar NZ Solidarity Foundation Incorporated was borne out of a few Filipinos vision and desire to pay forward by reaching out and helping new Filipino migrants and Filipinos in the Philippines particularly Region 8. The Society is constituted by resolution on 13 June 2015 and is incorporated under the Incorporated Societies Act 1908 on the 21st day of July 2015.
The objectives of the Society are:
1.   To foster unity, solidarity and camaraderie of all Leyte and Samar residents in New Zealand;

2.   To attend to the needs and concerns of Leyte and Samar migrants in New Zealand;

3.   To raise awareness and respect among the Filipinos regarding the special status of Maori people as tangata whenua;

4.   To raise funds for charitable purposes;

5.   To help Filipino communities organize livelihood programs here in New Zealand and back home in our beloved country, the Philippines.

Membership to the organization is open to migrants who hail from any of the following provinces that made up Region 8 namely: Biliran, Leyte, Southern Leyte, Samar, Northern Samar and Eastern Samar. Filipinos from other regions of the Philippines are also most welcome. To date the organization has 110 registered members and most of these members are actively involved in the organizations activities.
